Eric Parry Architects shortlisted for landmark building at Smithfield Birmingham

Eric Parry Architects is one of four architectural teams shortlisted for the design of one of the most prominent and high‑profile buildings within the £1.9bn regeneration of Smithfield, Birmingham.

The building will deliver a minimum of 185,000 square feet of high-quality, world-leading commercial office space, designed to reinforce Birmingham’s position as a major UK business hub. The building will sit above a 20,000 square foot reimagined Rag Market, ensuring that the historic market tradition remains a vibrant and integral part of daily life at Smithfield.  The new Rag Market will replace the existing facility and sit alongside the Open Market, which will be located immediately adjacent to the plot.

Smithfield Birmingham represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to shape the next chapter of the city’s evolution. Sitting at the intersection of Birmingham’s rich market heritage and its future‑facing ambitions, the 17‑hectare project is being delivered by Lendlease in partnership with Birmingham City Council. It also forms part of Lendlease’s conditional joint venture with The Crown Estate.

Other shortlisted teams are BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group, Carmody Groarke with Adamson Associates (International) Limited and David Kohn Architects with Weedon Architects.
