Opus Arisugawa Terrace and Residence

Eric Parry Architects was commissioned by Grosvenor Estates to reimagine the common areas and apartment 303 within the prestigious Opus Arisugawa Terrace and Residence —an exclusive address in Tokyo’s cosmopolitan heart, overlooking the serene Arisugawa-no-miya Memorial Park.

Every element of the four-bedroomed apartment is beautifully crafted using traditional artisans and specialist makers. In the entrance foyer, sakan wall art (Japanese plastering) by master craftsman Syuhei Hasado guides residents into their home, marking the transition between public and private space.  Made from natural materials, the wall adds depth and natural beauty to the entrance and is an interpretation of the horizon lines in a Turner painting.  This design serves as a subtle symbol of the harmonious fusion between English and Japanese artistic traditions.

Once inside the apartment, ‘Forest in the Autumn’, another of Hasado’s works made from Hida pine needles, brings texture to the interior.  At the heart of the apartment is the central living area, which employs the concept of ‘Space Beyond Space’ by using storage as partitions to effectively highlight the space’s expanse and depth.

The extensive use of smoked oak wall veneer fills the master bedrooms, creating warmth and an air of quiet reflection.

The bathrooms evoke the feeling of a luxury spa. In the master bathroom, a round hinoki tub with onyx walls and a granite floor elevates the bathing experience.
